Message from the Presidentby Russ AndersonGreetings CRA members, colleagues, and friends:You may find it hard to believe that CRA's 20th annual conference is rapidly approaching. For the second year in a row, we are joining with other like-minded organizations and continuing the "Sustaining Colorado Watersheds" theme, this year focusing on water quality. During my short time with CRA, it has been amazing to see how successful we have been with each annual conference, both those we have individually hosted and those with which we have joined with other organizations to put together. Although these combined conferences are a bit bigger than previous CRA conferences, we do strive to keep traditional riparian presentations as an integral part of the program, while providing opportunities for members to engage in other topics (such as policy, management, and watershed issues) that greatly influence Colorado's riparian zones. I hope you can find the time to attend this year's October 2-4 conference in Breckenridge, where we will hold the annual CRA meeting on Oct. 3 from 5-7 p.m. Visit www.coloradoriparian.org for more information. In addition to the flurry of ongoing conference preparations, we look to continue providing opportunities for members to become involved in riparian-related activities. This summer, CRA co-sponsored a rehabilitation and riparian management tour in South Park and we continue to maintain our partnership with Wildlands Restoration Volunteers. Look for ongoing opportunities to participate in upcoming projects either as a first-time volunteer or by applying your technical skills in a more advanced capacity. In closing, to my many friends and colleagues in the CRA, the time is nearly here when I will say so long as CRA President and hand the reigns over to our incoming president, Julie Ash. I look forward to the new energy, abilities, and wealth of experience that she will bring to the Office. I am certain that CRA will continue to prosper with Julie leading CRA in its ultimate mission to promote the conservation, restoration, and preservation of Colorado's invaluable riparian and wetland ecosystems. Best wishes to you all, Russ Anderson | |||||||||||
